Our eighteen day field trip will leave the mountains of North Carolina and head directly for the border of Mexico. We have been studying the history of Mexico and the US, immigration and border issues, and basic ecology. We will stop first at Refugio Del Rio Grande, a political refugee camp just inside our border. Then we will be spending almost a week in Cuatro Cienegas, a unique ecological setting in Mexico. We changed these plans at the last minute. Instead of Mexico, we will be spending more time in Refugio, then Padre Island and Austin. On our way home we will stop in New Orleans, Atlanta and Knoxville to share our experiences across the border(or very close to it).
